On Tuesday, we posted an audio recording of a mystery car’s exhaust note. To hear it again, click play below. Only two commenters figured out that this week’s sound came from Affalterbach, Germany, and of those two, only one further identified the source as the 2013 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. After a brief hiatus, the AMG-fettled G-class returned this year with a new engine—a twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V-8 in place of the 2011 model’s supercharged V-8 of the same displacement—and a name change from G55 to G63. Output now stands at 544 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque, increases of 44 hp and 44 lb-ft over the 2011 G55. Like the old engine, the twin-turbo mill breathes through glorious-sounding side-exit exhaust pipes.
Like that sound? Download the MP3 and quiz your friends, make your own ringtone, or just lull yourself to sleep with sweet, sweet vehicular ear candy.
