This weekend’s Formula 1 race in Austin, Texas, is playing host to big-name drivers and stars alike, but not every one of the names is attached to a racing superstar—yet. We caught up with up-and-coming American Lotus GP3 driver Conor Daly, who many believe could one day break into F1, during Friday’s practice sessions and asked him a few questions.
C/D: What’s in the garage at home?
CD: A 2004 Subaru WRX STI, which I bought when I turned 16 using money from a ‘first-car savings account’ that was started when I was five.
C/D: Is there anything else in the stable?
CD: “Just the STI. It’s got over 100,000 miles and it’s getting an engine rebuild soon.”
C/D: Think you’ll be entering the F1 Young Driver’s Test anytime soon?
CD: “If we keep working hard, getting sponsors, getting money, and going racing, maybe.”
C/D: Have you gotten behind the wheel of an F1 car yet?
CD: “I drove Force India’s car twice, but only for straight-line testing.”
C/D: Is there a specific F1 team you’d like to drive for?
CD: “Any.”
(What, you thought we were lying in the headline?)
