British Touring Car team boss Steve Neal believes Gordon Shedden can go on to take more titles after securing his first BTCC crown at Brands Hatch last weekend.
After narrowly missing out to Honda team-mate Matt Neal last season, Shedden won the 2012 crown by 21 points from Neal, having taken eight victories.
Shedden’s Team Dynamics/Honda boss Neal Sr believes the 33-year-old will now be a constant title threat.
“It’ll just give him that little bit of extra confidence he needs,” Neal Sr told AUTOSPORT. “It’s finally broken that bogey that the finale seemed to hit him with last year.
“He’s going to win several other championships I’m sure, whether in the BTCC or elsewhere.
“Without question he’s a worthy champion. He’s driven really well and you never saw his head go down even when he had that fire [at Snetterton].”
Shedden is the first Scot to take the crown since John Cleland triumphed for Vauxhall in 1995.
