The Swiss rider was collected by Ratthapark Wilairot’s bike on the final afternoon of the first pre-season test at Valencia.
Doctors were initially reluctant to predict a recovery time after Luthi’s injuries required a five-hour operation, with plates and screws fitted to his right arm and shoulder.
Luthi subsequently said he was aiming to return for the third round at Jerez, but has now confirmed he will travel to Austin with the hope of competing.
“I put all my energy and willpower into working towards an early comeback and I am happy about my speedy recovery,” Luthi said.
“I still lack power in my right arm, but nevertheless I’m sure that I’m ready to go out and race.
“I definitely want to take part in the free practice sessions on Friday.
“If I can confirm my hopes and ride without great difficulties, I will also start in the race on Sunday, trying to get the best possible result.”
Paddock team boss Daniel Epp admitted he was surprised by Luthi’s decision, but said he fully supported it given Luthi’s “remarkable progress in his rehabilitation.”
Luthi has finished in the top five in Moto2 for the past three years, and last year claimed one victory and six podiums. He won the 125cc world title in 2005.
