Tagliani: Honda will pave way forward

Alex Tagliani BHA Indycar test Barber 2013

Alex Tagliani believes that having the Honda engine for the start of the IndyCar season will pave the way for a more consistent year for the Bryan Herta Autosport team.

BHA was one of the teams to start 2012 using Lotus engines before switching to Honda after four races.

Tagliani went on to earn eight top-10 finishes with a best result of fifth at Edmonton, and the Canadian is hopeful that having a stable package this year will pay dividends in 2013.

“Last year we were here at St Petersburg with a different engine manufacturer and it was pretty hard on everybody; there was not the pace or performance that we wanted,” he said.

“Then the team decided to switch a week before the Indy 500 and it was difficult to relearn everything, the software and electronics that everybody else tested over the winter.

“Using the same engine for the whole year is going to make a big difference for us.

“We want to be very competitive. We showed some pace last year, especially in qualifying.

“Hopefully we have more stability this year, we can be more consistently in the top five in qualifying and the races.”
