IndyCar poised for Pocono test return

Will PowerSeveral IndyCar teams will test at Pocono next week ahead of the series’ return to the distinctive tri-oval in July.

Will Power, Dario Franchitti, Marco Andretti and Simon Pagenaud are scheduled to participate in next Wednesday’s test, which will be used for tyre evaluation by Firestone.

The Pocono race will join the Indianapolis 500 and Fontana in comprising the series’ Triple Crown this year, and will mark the first time that IndyCar has raced at the Pennsylvania track in more than two decades.

The series last visited the circuit in 1989 in its CART Indycar days before concerns over safety standards forced Pocono from the calendar.

It has since undergone significant upgrades and remains a regular stop on the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule.
