MG chief sure Tordoff will quickly win

Sam Tordoff on the Brands Hatch BTCC podium 2013MG British Touring Car team boss Ian Harrison believes new signing Sam Tordoff can win races this season.

Tordoff joined the multiple title-winning Triple Eight squad for this season, to drive an MG6 alongside Jason Plato.

The 23-year-old qualified fifth at the Brands Hatch season opener, less than 0.2 seconds away from Plato. He then drove to fourth, fifth and third in the races.

Harrison has been impressed with the former Porsche Carrera Cup racer.

“He was fantastic,” Harrison told AUTOSPORT. “A couple of the moves he pulled at Brands made it look like he’d been doing it for years.

“Any rookie who comes in and scores those results is someone you’ve got to sit up and take notice of.

“He’s under no illusions about where he is, he’s great to work with, and he’s fast.”

Harrison believes Tordoff can win races this season.

“If he keeps it simple and carries on the way he’s going there’s no reason he can’t win a couple of races,” he added.

Tordoff currently lies third in the drivers’ standings, 14 points behind double champion Plato.
