The Vita4One BMW squad is aiming to be on the grid for round two of the FIA GT Series at Zolder next month following its late withdrawal from this weekend’s championship opener at Nogaro.
Team boss Michael Bartels told AUTOSPORT that it was the team’s intention to contest the remainder of the series, which takes over from the FIA GT1 World Championship for this year, with a solo Pro class BMW Z4 capable of challenging for victory.

“We were trying to put together a top package of drivers together for Zolder and the rest of the season,” he said. “That wasn’t possible for this weekend, which is why we decided not to go to Nogaro.”
Bartels explained that this was the reason for the team’s failure to attend Nogaro and not engine-supply issues.
“There was no technical problem for us to be at Nogaro and we are already there helping BMW Sports Trophy Team India run one of our cars [in conjunction with SUNRED],” he continued. “It was just a question of not being able to put together the package we wanted in terms of drivers.”
GT1 World race winner Frank Kechele and Spa 24 Hours victor Greg Franchi, who were listed in the Vita4One BMW for Nogaro, are still possibilities for Zolder, according to Bartels.
The main focus for Vita4One, which as Vitaphone racing won five FIA GT titles, will be a three-car attack on the Blancpain Endurance Series, which starts at Monza next month, with three all-professional line-ups.
One car has so far been confirmed for Kechele, Franchi and Italian GT class champion Stefano Colombo.
