Formula Renault 3.5 race winner Sam Bird will return to the category for this week’s pre-season test at Paul Ricard as a benchmark driver for ISR.
The Mercedes Formula 1 test driver was a championship contender for the Czech squad last year, eventually finishing third in the standings behind Robin Frijns and Jules Bianchi.
ISR has so far only signed Sergey Sirotkin for 2013, and it has recruited Bird to help with its pre-season preparations in France.
Team boss Igor Salaquarda said: “Last year with Sam was another successful season for us and he delivered to the maximum of the car’s capabilities on every track.
“As such, we consider him to be the perfect benchmark and I have asked him to drive for us on both days, lending his expertise for the on-going development of our car.
“Sam’s focus will be to work hand in hand with our renewed and enhanced engineering team on all aspects of the car’s performance.
“He will also work closely with Sergey Sirotkin. I am confident Sergey can only benefit from only working with a driver of Sam’s calibre.”
