Sin City was the site for Week Two of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series (NiCAS) season, as the series implemented the all new Ford Fusion into competition. While the Fusion mirrors its rival Chevrolet SS in online performance, the addition of the Ford into the formerly all Chevrolet lineup adds a much more authentic feel to the races. From there it was up to the Ford drivers to wheel the Fusion for eighty five laps around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway oval, and claim victory for the manufacturer in their debut.
Where ever there is a party, there is a party pooper, and Ryan Luza spoiled the Fusion coming out party as he scored 372 points to put him atop the pylon in his Chevrolet SS. This is a familiar spot for Luza who shared top honors with Kenny Humpe last week in Phoenix, but stands alone in the top spot for week two. Sunday’s 5836 SoF was dominated by Carson McClelland who led fifty one of the eighty five laps, but finished a disappointing fifth on the night. Dylan Duval rallied throughout the race to come home with a second place finish, while NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship (NiSWC) driver Peter Bennett rounded out the podium.
The top two from Sunday’s big split held steady atop the weekly points standings, while former NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series (NiPS) driver Joshua B Gerrald strung together three wins in four races to finish third on the week. Patrick Baldwin scored a win in his only start and earned himself 349 points, good enough for fourth, while Adam Gilliland rounded out the top five. Luza holds the early points lead, but despite leading the points in every week thus far, it is a slim twenty six point lead over Gerrald.
Jesse Murphy of Ohio was a one man wrecking crew in the stat column for week two. Murphy led the way in starts with sixteen, and he made the most of them as he also led in wins (four) and top fives (ten). Damon Burnnette was tied for the most starts with sixteen, while four drivers took the green flag fifteen times.
Next week will finally give competitors a break from the hot Midwest sun, as the series heads back east for 175 laps around the famed Bristol Motor Speedway. Since the reconfiguration, Bristol has been a monumental task to setup for, pass, and keep all four wheels pointed in the same direction come race end. With that being said, the cream always seems to rise to the top, and a true short track ace is left standing with the trophy at the end of 175 grueling laps. Check back to inRacingNews.com next week for a full recap of all the fender to fender action from the bullring in Bristol, Tennessee.
