Kopecky wants increased programme

Jan KopeckyJan Kopecky wants Skoda to increase his European Rally Championship programme after triumphing on the season-opening Janner Rally last weekend.

Kopecky recovered from a left-front puncture on the second day in Austria to beat Bryan Bouffier to victory by 0.5 seconds, coming from over 10s back on the final stage to win.

Currently Skoda has only entered him for one more ERC event – the Czech Republic’s Zlin Rally in August – but will announce the remainder of his 2013 programme soon.

Kopecky wants to succeed his former team-mate Juho Hanninen as European champion this year.

He hopes to be given a programme encompassing enough events to make him a threat for the title.

“Bohemia [which is not part of the ERC] and Zlin, that’s it, it’s true,” he said when asked about the events that he is currently certain of starting.

“It would be nice to win the championship because I have not been European champion and it would be a really nice feeling.”

The ERC continues with the Liepaja-Ventspils Rally in Latvia later this month.
