Scott Pruett and Chip Ganassi Racing topped the leaderboard of Daytona 24 Hours at one-third distance.
Pruett led the race behind the safety car aboard the #01 Riley-BMW MkXXVI by less than a second from the Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara-Chevrolet DP01 in the hands of Max Angelelli.
The Ganassi team held sway at the top of the order for much of the first third of the opening round of the 2013 Grand-Am Sportscar Series, but was unable to break clear of the chasing pack with either of its two cars.
The team’s second car, which had lost time with a penalty, finished the eighth hour in third in the hands of Scott Dixon ahead of the Michael Shank Racing Riley-Ford driven by Alex Popow.
Six of the 17 Daytona Prototypes that started the race remained on the lead lap on eight hours, fifth and sixth places being held by the two Action Express Coyote-Chevrolet CPMs in the hands of Mike Rockenfeller and Christian Fittipaldi.
The ultra-competitive GT class was led by the Audi R8 GRAND-AM driven by Alex Job Racing driver Filipe Albuquerque. The Portuguese held a lead of 10s ahead of the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 in the hands of Alessandro Balzan.
