Zandvoort Masters hopes for new date

Zandvoort Masters hopes for new dateThe Masters of Formula 3 at Zandvoort is closing in on a new date of July 7 for this year’s event.

Organisers were forced to look for a new fixture after the F3 European Championship date at the Norisring was switched to July 13/14, clashing with the category’s Dutch blue-riband event.

Now the Dutch GT Championship has publicly revealed its calendar, stating a Masters of F3 support round on July 7.

But AUTOSPORT understands that this is conditional upon the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting on March 8, at which Zandvoort organisers are hopeful that the Masters will be exempted from a new sporting regulation in European F3 precluding competitors and teams from racing or testing on any circuit at which there is a subsequent European championship round.

With a European F3 event scheduled for Zandvoort on September 28/29, this has jeopardised the Masters taking place.

It is believed that the Auto GP round at Zandvoort, also scheduled for July 13/14, would have to move to July 6/7 if the Masters takes place.
