Genii fully committed to Lotus F1 team

Eric Boullier LotusLotus team owner Genii remains fully committed to the Formula 1 squad’s future, despite speculation that it has been looking at selling a stake in the outfit.

Rumours surfaced over the Indian Grand Prix weekend that the team was about to be sold to Proton, but these are understood to be wide of the mark.

High-level sources have revealed that discussions with several potential new partners about a minority stake in the team have taken place over recent months.

However, none of these discussions reached fruition. The most recent talks with an unidentified group are believed to have broken up ahead of the Indian GP.

Now, Genii has elected to focus its efforts on giving the Lotus team what it needs to move forward following a promising 2012 campaign.

Team principal Eric Boullier told AUTOSPORT: “Obviously a lot of discussions happen in the background, and I can just say for us the team is not for sale, the team has not been sold, the team will not be sold.

“Even if there was some discussion with some partners, clearly the situation has been handled by Genii.

“But now, it not just back to normal because it is even better. The strategy of Genii is quite clear now and we will have everything we need to build up in the long-term future. They are committed for the long term.”
